Yesterday the internet was awash with rumors, started by Heroic Hollywood that the official title for DC’s highly anticipated Avengers-style team up movie Justice League had been leaked. The rumor did not specify the exact title but said it was one of the following contenders: Justice League United; Justice League: Angels and Demons; Justice League: Gods Among Us; and Justice League: Gods Among Men.
None of these titles really sound all that good, but avid DC fans will recognise two of the four from the comics. Gods Among Men is almost exactly the same as the subtitle to the Injustice: Gods Among Us DC comics video games, which notably were set in an alternate reality where the death of Lois Lane has caused Superman to go over the edge and establish a dictatorship in his name. This notion is explored in the vision of the dystopian future that Batman/Bruce Wayne sees in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and is cautioned by a time travelling Flash in that odd central sequence in the movie. Justice League United was the title to a DC comics strip in 2014-16, although the series followed a Canada-based version of the Justice League, which was comprised mostly of frankly B-team JLA characters.
Well, all the speculation can now end as the official title has been confirmed via Geoff John’s Twitter account:
Johns is the recently named co-chief of DC Films division, so this is a confirmation, not another rumor. So, what do we think? Well, much like the original Avengers, it makes sense to call the film Justice League. It’s clear, it’s sufficient. There is no need to add a superfluous subtitle, where one isn’t required. DC endured a little bit of ridicule for it’s inclusion of Dawn of Justice as the subtitle to this year’s much maligned Batman v Superman, so it is hardly surprising they are looking to keep this one short and to the point. Whilst it doesn’t give us anything to pick over or speculate on (which we do so love to do here at it is probably the best, most sensible title to go for.
