Season One of Supergirl featured white martians, screaming banshees and a mind control device that hypnotised the entire world, but that's nothing compared to what Season Two has in store for us.
Now that the show has been renewed by the CW network, Supergirl's sophomore season looks set to shake things up with the upcoming Flarrowverse crossover, an official casting call for Superman and now TV Line have just announced today that five more characters will be added to the show.
What does this mean for the show? Join us as we break down the casting calls and what the original comic books can tell us about each of these five new roles.
Lena Luthor
Out of the five new players, the name that immediately draws focus is Lena Luthor, the sister of Lex who is reportedly escaping to National City in order to escape the bald guy's shadow.
Now that Superman will be playing a more prominent role on the show, it's only a matter of time before Lex himself arrives on the scene, promising an epic showdown much later down the line.
Nick Farrow
Next up is Nick Farrow, the son of a famous journalist who gets on the wrong side of Kara at Catco, but reports suggest that the character has more potential to become heroic as the series progresses.
Nothing too exciting to report there, for now then, but there's always the chance that Farrow could end up being one of Kara's potential love interests if things don't work out with Jimmy Olsen.
The Doctor
One of the new characters who's referred to only as The Doctor will play a mysterious role within Project Cadmus, the shady organisation that is set become a larger threat for Supergirl by the time Season Two rolls around.
There's no direct comic book counterpart for The Doctor that we're aware of, but there's always a chance that the role could turn out to be Serling Roquette, the head of the Genetics Division at Cadmus.
Maggie Sawyer
One of the most exciting new additions to the show is Maggie Sawyer, a Detective who will lead the meta-human branch of the National City Police. The parallels this raises with the Central City police force in The Flash provides another hint of how Supergirl will embrace the framework of the Flarrowverse.
The introduction of Sawyer into the DC TV universe also opens the door for the detective's long-term girlfriend Kate Kane to make an appearance later down the line. Not only would it be interesting to explore a lesbian relationship within the context of the show, but there's also a chance that Kane could become a superhero in her own right, adopting the mantle of Batwoman like she does in the comics.
Snapper Carr
Of all the new additions to the cast, it's easy to overlook Snapper Carr, an honorary member of the Justice League who has no real powers of his own and likes to click his fingers a lot, because, the '60s, but the introduction of Carr could have huge ramifications for the Flarrowverse.
All we know so far about Carr's recurring role on Supergirl is that Cat Grant hired him to help revitalise the CatCo newsroom, but the character's comic book counterpart possesses strong ties with a superhero named Hourman, who just so happened to pop up in theLegends of Tomorrow season finale.
Will Carr play a more important role later down the line, potentially working alongside the Justice Society of America?
The news that Supergirl's cast is growing rapidly should be extremely exciting for the fans as it proves that CW are invested in the show, but where does this leave the regular cast from Season One? Will any of the established characters receive less screen time? Will Cat Grant leave the show faster than a speeding bullet? And who the hell is in that bloody pod from the Season One finale?
The answers to all of that and more will be revealed when Supergirlreturns to our screens this fall on the CW network.
